Villa Godi

Villa Godi was begun in 1537 and completed in 1542 — it is Palladio’s very first autograph work. According to Beltramini, the Villa Godi “[m]arks the initial stage of [Palladio’s] attempt to construct a new type of country residence. Moreover, it is Palladio’s earliest obvious attempt to interweave elements from the local building tradition with the new knowledge of classical architecture he was gradually acquiring with the help of [his patron,] Trissino.” The Villa Godi is most significantly characterized by its distinct and powerful symmetry.
