Valmarana Chapel Church of Santa Corona

Designed around or just after 1576, the Valmaran Chapel Church of Santa Corona is generally characterized as ‘simple’ and ‘sweet.’ Here again we see Palladio’s architectural skill in the interior: “Bounded by book — folded pilasters with double entasis, the square chamber extends longitudinally with two niches surmounted by embrasures filtering a sepulchral light — a sophisticated citation of the tablinum found in antique Roman houses.” (Beltramini, p. 93) Constant further remarks on the design of the chapel, relating it to that of the side chapels in the Redentore, while in the interior the “altar is remnisent of antique sarcophagi.” (Constant, p. 121)
